City Park
SPORTS and RECREATION

Boating

There are few more enjoyable ways to enjoy a great urban park like New Orleans City Park than lazily floating along, keeping company with ducks, geese and swans for a half-hour of pedaling. The boats are available on a first come first serve basis. Pedal boats seat 4; Row boats seat 3. No reservations are taken.

One passenger on each boat must be a minimum of 18 years of age. Life preservers must be worn at all times. The pedal boat dock is located at Big Lake off Friedrichs Avenue.

Fishing in City Park

Bass, catfish and perch make their homes in the 11 miles of lagoons in City Park. Those wishing to fish the park's waterways must carry a freshwater fishing license from the State of Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. No fishing is allowed on park golf courses or during spawning season. For a listing of the fish that make their home in the park, visit our Inside Guide to the Fish of City Park.

Big Bass Fishing Rodeo

City Park's Big Bass Fishing Rodeo is held each spring. This popular event features music, exhibits, a silent auction, a casting contest and demonstrations, trophies and plaques. For information on the upcoming Rodeo, visit the Big Bass Fishing Rodeo pages.

In 2010, a new fishing pier was built along the lagoon, between Harrison and Filmore streets. The lagoon was also deepened from an average depth of 3 feet to an average depth of 5 feet.
