  • Creating Bonsai from Garden Center Stock Class

    If you have ever wanted to learn the art of bonsai and how these living works of art are created, then this workshop is for you! In this three hour hands-on workshop, you will learn bonsai basics and you will create your very own bonsai tree. This class' instructor is Jim Osborne. The class will run 9am to noon. 

    What to bring: sharp pair of scissors, garden gloves, and apron. Soil, wire, and a Juniper will be provided. Bring your own bonsai pot if you wish and special bonsai soil will be provided.

    Class limited to 15 people; pre-registration required $35/person. The class is from 9am-12pm and takes place in the Garden Study Center at the New Orleans Botanical Garden in City Park.

    Jim Osborne is a native to New Orleans and an “Award Winning Bonsai Artist” winning the 2008 Vaughn Banting award.  He has served as a Board of Director for the past seven years and is past Vice-President and past President of the Bonsai Society. He has displayed his personal bonsai collection in the fall and spring New Orleans Botanical Garden Flower Show for many years. Jim has also displayed his bonsai at Art in Bloom in the New Orleans Museum of Art.

  • Grow Dat Farm Stand

    Activities

    Check out the Farm Stand at Grow Dat to purchase youth-grown produce in the City Park area’s only Saturday produce market. Get your weekly supply of fresh sustainably grown veggies, herbs and cut flowers direct from our farm in City Park! Their specialties include salad mix, arugula, lettuce, kale, chard, and a variety of herbs. Produce is grown and sold by youth employees who are training as young leaders through the work of organic farming. Youth will be providing free tours of our fields, eco-campus and bayou corridor. All proceeds will go to further our mission to nurture a diverse group of young leaders through the meaningful work of growing food. Visitors can even take a tour while at the facility.
    Saturdays from 9am-Noon (Now – June 14, 2014)
