A Whimsical Garden
Wednesday, May 28 (in 8 days, 4 hours, 48 minutes)
7:00 p.m.
Susan Capley and Jerry Scavol will present a lighthearted presentation of a whimsical garden. We will discuss when whimsy in the garden became popular and showcase Jerry’s whimsical garden that he created at his home. Come and enjoy the other side of gardening. Jerry Scavol has been a gardener his entire life. It all started from his family garden which was an old victory garden in its day. At eight years of age he read the book “Gardening in New Orleans” and has been gardening ever since. Jerry’s garden was part of the Katrina recovery garden tour last fall. The garden Jerry had before the storm was a Tuscan formal garden but after the storm he had a new garden site and decided to have fun in the garden and that is what Whimsy is all about! Susan Capley is a horticulturist and has been gardening all her life. She received a degree in Plant and Soil Science with the emphasis in Horticulture Enterprise Management from the University of Kentucky. She has worked twenty years in several areas of horticulture from organic vegetable production, residential landscaping, color design, Horticulturist for the Kentucky State Botanical Garden at the University of Kentucky, and now Education Director for the New Orleans Botanical Garden.
