Amusements and Carousel Gardens
Have you ever wanted to drive a train, or work a Ferris Wheel? City Park is looking for professional, outgoing, friendly, and enthusiastic people to work part time in the Amusement Park for the 2013 season. We cross train our staff to work as both ride operators and cashiers. You must enjoy working with the public, especially children, and be willing to serve our visitors cheerfully in order to ensure an outstanding experience! You also must be able to stand for up to 8 hours a day, work outdoors, weekends, some evenings, and holidays. We work in an atmosphere of FUN, and only smiling faces will be considered for employment. We offer flexible schedules and work around your classes. The hours are approximately 18-20 hours to start, then during the summer, up to 35 hours. Cashier/Attendant City Putt
We are currently seeking part time Cashiers/Attendants to work at our miniature golf facility which will be opened spring 2013.
Responsibilities:
- Provide excellent customer service to all guests.
- Distribute and receive equipment from guests (putters, balls, scorecards etc.)
- Trained in cashier function.
- Follow correct procedures on receiving, recording, and depositing monies.
- Must be able to identify potential safety matters and communicate to supervisor.
- Must enjoy working with the public and be willing to serve our visitors cheerfully in order to ensure outstanding service.
This is a part time position.
Porter for City Putt - Part Time
We are currently seeking part time Porters to work at our Miniature Golf facility to be opened at the end of May.
Responsibilities:
- Provide excellent customer service to all guests.
- Maintain cleanliness of grounds, courses, and building.
- Pick up trash and leaves
- Clean and stock restrooms
- Provide assistance to guests on the course as necessary.
- Must be able to identify potential safety matters and communicate to supervisor.
Requirement:
- Must be able to work outdoors and stand for up to 8 hours a day.
- Customer service experience required.
- Prior maintenance experience required.
- Must be able to work nights, holidays and weekends.
- Applicants must be 18 years or older.

Ride Mechanic
New Orleans City Park is currently seeking ride Mechanic to work in our Amusement area.
Job Description:
- Theme park ride maintenance experience preferred.
- Must be able to recognize and understand ASTM standards as they apply to amusement rides.
- Perform visual inspections of assigned rides and attractions
- Maintain, erect, repair and trouble-shoot various theme park rides and attractions
- Visually inspect and listen to machines and equipment to locate causes of malfunctions
- Remove and/or replace worn or defective parts using hand and/or power tools
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on various equipment including rides and attractions
- Keep a daily duty log of maintenance work performed as well as accurate records of preventive maint.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
- Working knowledge of PC's (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Reports directly to Chief Mechanic and/or Director of Amusements.
Job Requirements:
Required:
- At least 4 years experience in the mechanical/electrical field.
- Electrical control experience necessary to work on amusement rides.
- Experience in pneumatics, valves, gears, electrical circuitry, engines, elect. Motors, starters, etc.
- Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with fellow employees.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Have interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts.
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
- Work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Able to effectively communicate, in both written and oral forms.
- Excellent troubleshooting abilities.
- Must possess the mental and physical capacities necessary to perform the primary job duties, including climbing and working at heights up to 100ft., crawling and working in confined spaces and lifting up to 100 lbs. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, kneel stoop and twist. Must be able to work outdoors in extreme temperatures. Must possess the physical dexterity to operate hand tools and motor vehicles.
Preferred:
- Post high school training in related field
- Ability to diagnose and program PLC's
- Trade school certification
- Welding experience and/or AIMS certification.
- Previous experience working the amusement park industry.
Part Time Concession Manager
We are currently seeking a part time Concessions Manager to oversee the effective operations and service of all seasonal concession outlets and mobile units in the Park.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate leadership to Concessions personnel in meeting objectives, policies and procedures of the department as set forth by the Director of Concessions.
- Consistently train and develop, including coaching and discipline of all personnel.
- Work closely with Concession Supervisors to ensure correct stock levels are maintained based on business demands.
- Ensure quality food and beverage service and presentation.
- Constantly review the product range to ensure that all key quality standards are maintained.
- Handle and manage customer complaints and offer resolution.
Requirements:
- Experience in numerous food and beverage operations, which demonstrates previous multitasking of several areas.
- Louisiana Responsible Vendor Permit, TIPS training, and Serv Safe Certification required.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Team player who works productively with wide range of people.
- Effective listening, verbal and written communication skills.
- Problem-solving, analytical ability, resourceful, and a self starter.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Experience on managing and controlling inventory.

Park Maintenance Laborer
We are currently seeking a laborer to work in New Orleans City Park Maintenance department.
Responsibilities:
- Cuts grass, weeds, trees, and brush; cleans culverts, drains, and ditches; moves, and unloads materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Operates a tractor to cut grass; cleans equipment.
- Operates a weed eater.
- Performs a wide variety of physical labor functions.
- Cleans and maintains shelters and other Park rental facilities.
- Makes minor repairs to equipment and performs user maintenance necessary to keep equipment in clean, good working order.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Prior Maintenance experience.
- Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
Botanical Garden Gift Shop Cashier
We are currently seeking a Gift shop Cashier to assist customers with selection and purchasing of merchandise in the Botanical Garden Gift Shop.
Responsibilities:
- Greet and assist customers.
- Ring up customer purchases on the cash register.
- Complete cash reconciliation form at end of the day.
- Restock shelves with merchandise.
- Greet tour buses and have guides complete paperwork.
- Give general information about the Garden and City Park to the public.
Requirement:
- Two to three years customer service experience required.
- Prior Cash handling experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
- Must be able to work on Sundays.
- Applicants must be 18 years or older.
- Must be able to work both independently, and as a team member.
This position is for Sundays only from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm
Birthday Party Coordinator
We are currently seeking a Birthday Party Coordinator for the Recreational Services department, including Carousel Gardens, Storyland, and City Putt.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for setting up birthday parties.
- Ensure that all birthday party locations are cleaned and set up for each party, and are cleaned after the event.
- Oversee delivery of food; remain available to birthday party host and their guests to address any of their needs.
- Responsible for ensuring an excellent birthday party experience for guests.
- Communicate with birthday party sales for schedule.
- Ensure that parties are adequately staffed.
- Make every effort to accommodate reasonable requests for rescheduling, or utilizing another ride if weather is a factor.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and order as needed before running out of any items.
Requirements:
Excellent customer service skills.
Prior special events experience required.
Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays as business dictates.
Must be able to work outdoors.

Forest Manager
We are currently seeking a part time Forest Manager to oversee, maintain and nurture Couturie Forest and Scout Island.
Responsibilities:
- Oversees, maintains and nurtures Couturie Forest and Scout Island.
- Manages the unique ecosystems within Couturie Forest and Scout Island.
- Develops and implements a plan for control of invasive species.
- Oversees and/or installs new trees, relocation and removal of existing trees, and all required maintenance activities for same.
- Identifies problems such as damaged, diseased, and stressed trees and formulates corrective measures to address such problems.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree from a four year college or university
- Licensed Louisiana Arborist
- Experience with the management of a Louisiana bottomland hardwood forest along with a keen understanding of how ecosystems within the park function in the short and long term.
Seasonal Catering- Waiters or Bartenders
New Orleans City Park is seeking candidates for the Catering Department. Summary of duties include the ability to handle food and/or drinks for scheduled events. Serving and/or Carving station experience preferred. Bartending experience preferred.
City Park Volunteer Program Intern
Position Description: The intern will be the second in command for the entire City Park volunteer program. This position is an amazing opportunity for an individual seeking experience in the fields of project management, volunteer management, parks and recreation, and non-profit work. This internship will be a hybrid between office and field work. Interns will have an opportunity to work on both the planning and implementation stages of successful volunteer projects. Position is unpaid.
Duties Include:
- Help to plan all aspects of large and small scale volunteer projects
- Leading volunteer groups during park service projects (projects include planting flowers, trees, landscaping, mulching/blazing forest trails, invasive plant species removal, wetland grass planting, painting)
- Assist in the upkeep of sections of the park planted by volunteers
- Attend tabling events at local universities and businesses

Skills: Intern must be organized, friendly, and have the ability to work with and lead large groups of people. They must be able to perform manual labor, including some heavy lifting (50 lbs or less). Past experience with community service and events planning preferred. Horticultural knowledge or environmental background is a plus, but not a must.
